ProAdvisor vs. Website – Which Brings in More Bookkeeping Leads?

When you’re launching your bookkeeping business, deciding what to focus on first can feel a little overwhelming. A great question that came up recently is:

“Do you get more leads from your ProAdvisor profile, or does your website bring in more?”

I get it. As a former Bookkeeper Launch (BL) student who now builds websites for bookkeepers, I’ve been in your shoes. Here’s the advice I always give:

Start with the ProAdvisor Profile

It’s quick, easy, and gets you visible without too much effort. QuickBooks already has potential clients searching for help, and being listed in their directory can land you a few leads – especially when tax season rolls around. Plus, that shiny ProAdvisor badge adds credibility to your name.

But don’t stop there.

Market Your Business – Even Before You’re Ready

This is the step a lot of new bookkeepers skip. Don’t wait until you finish the course to start putting yourself out there. Post on social media, share tips, and talk about your new business. Getting your name in front of potential clients early means they’ll remember you when they’re ready to hire.

Even if you feel like you’re still learning – share the journey. Clients appreciate transparency, and it helps build trust.

When to Invest in Your Website

Once you’ve started marketing and feel good about your onboarding process, it’s time to invest in your website.

Your website acts as your digital storefront – something that works for you 24/7, even when you’re off the clock. It helps potential clients learn about your services, see what makes you different, and feel confident reaching out.

The sooner you launch your site, the sooner it can start attracting leads.
Even if you DIY a simple, clean website in the beginning, it’s better than having nothing. And when the time is right, upgrading to a professional site will only elevate your business further.

So, Which One Brings in More Leads?

Here’s the truth: Both are important, but they serve different roles.

  • ProAdvisor Profile – Quick, easy, and great for visibility within QuickBooks.
  • Website – Long-term, scalable, and allows you to stand out in a crowded market.

A ProAdvisor profile might bring in the occasional lead, but a well-built website? That’s where I see bookkeepers start attracting clients who feel aligned with their niche and values.

Final Thoughts
I hope this helps clarify things! If you’re ready to get your website up and running but don’t want to deal with the tech headache, that’s exactly what I do.
