On April 30th, I celebrated six years in business. Six years of learning, evolving, and building from the ground up—while raising a family, working a full-time job, and growing two brands.
And just a few days later? I had an experience that reminded me I’m still learning.
The Honest Backstory
I recently brought on a virtual assistant to help me with the Website Support for Bookkeepers Facebook group. As part of the process, we reached out to a few group members to share helpful resources. One message didn’t land well. This group member felt it was too impersonal, and she let me know.
At first, I felt that familiar sting (you know the one). But then, I felt something else: gratitude.
Here’s Why I’m Sharing This
Because even after six years, I’m still in the thick of it. Still growing, still making tweaks, and still focused on building and nurturing meaningful relationships.
I never want to pretend this business is perfectly polished behind the scenes. It’s not. And I think more people need to see the messy middle, not just the wins.
What It Taught Me
- Feedback is a gift, even when it’s uncomfortable. That message helped me create a better experience for the next person.
- Six years in, and I’m still committed to doing this the right way—not just the fast way.
What You Can Take Away From This
If you’re figuring things out as you go—welcome to the club. You’re not behind, you’re building. Mistakes aren’t failures—they’re proof that you’re learning and growing.
The real magic happens when you stay open, stay human, and build a business that feels good behind the scenes—not just polished on the outside.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned after six years? Feedback shapes everything. It influences your messaging, your website, and the kind of experience your clients walk away with.
Now I’d love to hear from you:
What’s one piece of feedback you’ve received that changed the way you run your business?
Join the conversation in the group and share your story—I’ll be there too.
